The Village of Minto has issued a Request for Proposal inviting tenders to develop affordable housing in the Village, and they are offering up municipally owned land for $1.00 to entice builders. Housing is absolutely one of the biggest concerns not just here in Minto, but in most rural areas around the province", said Minto Mayor, Erica Barnett. "We decided to offer up municipally owned land for $1.00 to entice and encourage builders to come to Minto and build housing units. The Village of Minto is seeking creative, affordable, rental housing solutions that could include and not be limited to for-profit and not-for-profit developers and financing models that could include CMHC and Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) contributions. The goal is to build no fewer than six housing units in calendar year 2022 and will expect to enter into a developer agreement to build more rental units in future years. We are committed to ensuring our citizens have a safe, affordable place to live, and by offering an incentive of purchasing land for $1.00, we are confident that developers will jump at the opportunity to break ground and begin construction here in Minto in the very near future," said
