Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in West Des Moines, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.

The extent of work on this project is the furnishing of all labor, equipment, and materials for the construction of improvements generally described as follows: The project involves removing and reconstructing 8th Street from just south of Maple Street to just south of Vine Street. The existing roadway pavement will be removed and replaced, including portions of the side streets. Roadway pavement replacement is being bid as PCC versus HMA alternate and includes subgrade preparation and subbase material. Storm sewer cross runs and intakes will be modified, removed and replaced, and relocated as shown in the plans. Driveways will be replaced, and sidewalks will be upgraded at intersections and where necessary to facilitate driveway replacement. The sidewalk and roadway surface along the west side of 8th Street at the intersections with Maple Street and Elm Street is the lid of a reinforced concrete box culvert which will be removed and replaced. The project also includes surface restoration, traffic control, and other related works. Work on said project shall commence within ten (10) days of the written notice to proceed and shall be completed by September 30, 2022. Liquidated damages in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per day will be assessed for each day that the work remains uncompleted after the end of the contract period. The City Council of West Des Moines, Iowa, will hold a public hearing on the proposed Plans, Specifications, Form of Contract, and Estimate of Costs for the construction of said improvements at 5:35 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022 in the Council Chambers, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines. At said hearing, any interested person may appear and file objections thereto or to the cost of the improvements. All bids shall be made on a form furnished by the City and shall be filed on or before the time specified above, in a sealed envelope addressed to the City Clerk of West Des Moines, Iowa, clearly stating that the envelope contains a bid on this project. Each proposal shall be accompanied by a bid bond, a cashier's or certified check drawn on an Iowa bank or a bank chartered under the laws of the United States in an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the total amount of the bid. If a bid bond is submitted it must be on the form provided with the contract documents. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a performance and payment bond in the amount of one hundred percent (100%) of the contract price guaranteeing faithful performance of the contract and guaranteeing payment to all persons supplying labor and/or materials in the execution of the work provided for in the contract. Additionally the contractor must provide the City with a guarantee of maintenance of said improvement in the form of surety for a period of four (4) years from the time of acceptance by the City. The City reserves the right to reject any and/or all bids and to waive any and/or all technicalities and/or all irregularities.
