Renovation of a detention facility in Saint John, New Brunswick. Completed plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.
The Scope of Work is to upgrade cells in Unit 1 (26 cells), segregation (4 cells) and Unit 4 (24 cells). Scope is being limited to cells only as day rooms cannot be decommissioned for any period of time due to COVID. The units will be divided in 4 occupancy zones and 8 construction zones. An occupancy zone is half of one unit, so unit 1A, 1B, SEG,4A and 4B are individual occupancy zones. Each construction zone will consist of half of each occupancy zone (one per level). The work will have to be sequenced as described below. Lounge areas 61 & 63 are to be used as lay down areas. All tools and material need to be secured in these rooms at the end of each work day. While working in an occupancy zone, there will be no offenders in that zone, however only one construction zone (one level) can be completed at a time to ensure 50% of the cells in a dedicated occupancy zone are operational at all times in the event of an emergency. Once a construction zone is complete, an inspection and all deficiencies shall be completed to the satisfaction of the Architect/Engineer prior to commencing the next construction zone.
