Saving Project...

Site work for a water / sewer project in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The Water Authority has two non-potable water systems in operation on the Eastside of the service area: Alameda Non-Potable and Southside Water Reclamation Plant (SWRP) Reuse. The Alameda Non-Potable project uses a subsurface diversion located at Alameda and the Rio Grande to divert water from horizontal collector wells installed approximately 60 feet below the river and this water is pumped east providing non-potable water for irrigation to customers in the northeast service area. The SWRP Reuse project treats wastewater effluent through tertiary filters to reuse standards and this water is pumped east providing non-potable water for irrigation to customers in the southeast service area. The Water Authority anticipates having more water available at SWRP Reuse than is needed to serve customers in the southeast service area. The South-to-North Pipeline would enable water to be transferred from the south reuse system to the north reuse system, while also increasing the availability of reuse water to customers located between the two systems. By connecting these two systems, the Water Authority would be able to turn off the Alameda Non-Potable diversion during drought conditions without having to pump groundwater. Maximizing the use of available reuse water, promotes sustainability by minimizing pumping and saving groundwater for the future. This pipeline would increase the amount of water available for aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) at the existing Bear Canyon ASR facility, also supporting sustainable water supplies into the future. The South-to-North Pipeline project is a project listed in Water 2120, the Water Authority's 100-year water resources management strategy. This project provides drought resiliency and improves sustainability, maximizing water reuse and reducing the need to pump groundwater. Planning and design for this project would include identification of the pipeline alignment, potholing and geotechnical analyses, environmental studies, easement acquisition and permitting. Planning, design and construction services would most likely be contracted through the Water Authority's on-call engineering and construction contracts. The project is included in the 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of May 2, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified.* *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
