The City of Dallas is requesting written proposals from consulting firms to assist the City in the production of a corridor mobility plan for Military Parkway from Forney Road to South Buckner Boulevard (Loop 12). Military Parkway runs east/west from Dolphin Rd to Interstate Highway 635 in Mesquite, Texas. It serves the eastern and southern Dallas communities by providing connection of minor arterials and collector roads while serving as a major truck route for industrial and commercial uses. Military Parkway also connects schools, neighborhoods, Fair Park, and City of Mesquite to Downtown Dallas. The Military Parkway corridor (approximately 6.7 miles) is functionally classified as a principal arterial designated as a key truck route. The existing typical section of the corridor currently exists as a four-lane divided typical section, with service roads between Lawnview Avenue and South Buckner Boulevard (Loop 12). The majority of Military Parkway between the project limits does not have sidewalks, curbs, or gutters. The City of Dallas Thoroughfare Plan (1991) currently calls for the road to be widened in the future depending in demand, to a six-lane divided typical section (M-6-D(A)). It was first identified in the 1944 Bartholomew Plan for Dallas, as a major arterial. Military Parkway was so named as the road to Peacock Military Academy, that was located at Military and Jim Miller. Part of the original campus still stands as the Urban Park School.
