Renovation of an educational facility in Kingston, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
Duncan McArthur Hall was built between 1969 and 1971 in two phases - A-wing and B-wing and it is home mainly to the Faculty of Education comprising mostly of administration offices, classrooms, lecture theatres, labs, technical shops, and a large education library. It also has a large auditorium which is heavily used throughout the year by Queen's and the Kingston community. Although McArthur Hall has had upgrades and renovations over the years, the main electrical service equipment (located in the A-wing and B-wing main electrical rooms) and the Motor Control Centre (MCC) are late 1960's-early 1970's-vintage and requires upgrade/replacement. Both A-wing and B-wing electrical rooms each contain (at least) one 4160 volt fused load break switch, a 1000kVA 4160-208/120V dry-type transformer and a 3000 amp 208/120V switchboard containing both draw-out air circuit breakers and molded case circuit breakers. The A-wing electrical room also houses additional 4160-volt load break switches as Duncan McArthur Hall is loop fed (incoming/outgoing 4160V) and currently powers the West Campus Central Plant building at 4160V on a radial feed. Currently, McArthur Hall is fed directly from Utilities Kingston (UK) via UK 1201 but can be backfed from UK706 with Utilities Kingston's permission and aid. The B-wing electrical room is fed at 4160V from the A-wing electrical room. The intent of the project is to replace most of the original equipment in the main electrical rooms and two motor control centres. The Scope of Work pertains to the upgrade of the equipment in the main electrical rooms of A and B wings including, but not limited to replacement of 4160V switches, transformers and switchboards, feeders, a new 600A automatic transfer switch, and two 600A MCCs. Preferred Schedule: Start Date: March 2022 Preferred Completion Date: The project to be completed as quickly as possible and no later than August 21, 2022.
