The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is seeking to hire a Contractor in order to clean up the crown land lots, and laneways in and around Hedley next spring. Included in this package is a map and an inventory indicating the location of all wastes we are seeking to dispose of. While the management and regulation concerning the illegal deposition of materials on crown land and its lane ways is under the control of the Province, the RDOS is working in partnership with the Province where they will administer the regulation. The RDOS will manage and contract the cleanup of the wastes. The RCMP will be recording all VIN numbers of illegally parked cars, RV's and trailers The RCMP will also be contacting the owners of these vehicles in March 2022, and issuing a "notice of trespass". Vehicles remaining 30 days after the notice is issued will be subject to towing, impoundment and disposal. In March and April of 2022, Provincial conservation and RDOS bylaw enforcement officers will be going door to door and doing a "knock and talk" with properties who have homes that are adjacent to some of the waste areas that may wish to claim some of their materials. The RDOS has an "untidy and unsightly" premise bylaw that deals will wastes deposited on private property. This bylaw is activated by public complaint and is not part of the scope of this project. In order to engage the community and to determine the communities' wishes, the RDOS undertook a public open house and issued a public survey. The proposed cleanup project is strongly supported by the community. While we have provided maps and inventories of the waste it is strongly suggested that the contractor familiarize themselves with the area and the scope of the cleanup proposed.
