Ketchum’s Capital Improvement Plan initially budgeted just over $1 million for the project, but city officials now estimate the full rebuild of the roadway, along with pedestrian improvements, will cost over $1.5 million more than the previously budgeted amount. Roughly $376,000 of this additional cost will be paid through a partnership between the City Council and the Urban Renewal Agency, which will fund half of the pedestrian improvements. Multiple avenues for funding the additional cost of the project were discussed during Monday’s City Council meeting, including tapping into the city’s Local Option Tax (LOT) fund, which currently has enough money to pay for the project. “I don’t think you ever regret spending money on a good infrastructure, and that’s one of the core deliverables for a town and a city,” said Ketchum Mayor Neil Bradshaw during the City Council meeting. “Are costs coming in higher than we anticipated? Yeah, and I think that’s a story we’re going to see continue.” In accordance with the city’s construction contracts, all pedestrian elements in Ketchum must be completed by July 4. Roadway construction must be done by the start of the city’s Wagon Days celebration on Sept. 2. ____________________________________________________________ Project Category Code: Pavement Resurface and Rehabilitation Description: City of Ketchum: Completed Work will provide the Owner with a rehabilitated road between Main Street and the southern side of Spruce Avenue (approximately 1,440 LF). Pavement will be rehabilitated via a full depth rebuild consisting of 4.5 inch asphalt, 6 inch base course and 8 inch subbase material. Surface utilities in the roadway prism will be adjusted to finish grade. Each intersection will be rehabilitated with combinations of new curb ramps, new sidewalk bulb outs and truncated domes. Driveways at alleys between intersections will receive truncated domes in existing sidewalks on either side of driveway. Approximately 388 LF of existing curb and gutter will be removed and replaced. City of Sun Valley: Completed Work will provide the Owner with a rehabilitated road between Spruce Avenue and (approximately 13,800 LF) the Gun Club. Pavement will be rehabilitated via CRABS and repaved with 4 inches of asphalt. Connections to existing streets and paths will be regraded and connected to the raised asphalt pavement. Drainage swales will be re-established and culverts extended or installed to provide adequate road side drainage. Utilities in the roadway prism will be raised to finish grade. The Saddle Road intersection (approximately 100 LF north and south of centerline intersection with Sun Valley Road) will not be treated. Areas with existing curb and gutter may be reconstructed full depth to match existing grade. Large areas of pavement directly adjacent to Sun Valley Road will need grading to accommodate the raised roadway, especially near the Sinclair station to Moritz Road. Adjacent pathway pavers will also need to be adjusted to match the final road elevation. A cut slope south of Hemingway parking lot will be created to alleviate site distance issues at parking lot exit.
