Site work and paving for a bridge / tunnel in Thornton, Colorado. Conceptual plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
This project provides a 100-year crossing at Washington Street for the Grange Hall Creek South Tributary per the Master Plan. Currently, the roadway overtops in the 10-year event and the culverts are being undermined and clog frequently. This will also provide additional detention upstream of Washington St to remove properties downstream from the floodplain. The City and Mile High Flood District (MHFD) have entered an agreement to partner on the design of this project. MHFD will be the design and construction lead, and provide funding participation. Design and permitting began in early 2024. Also in 2024, outside utilities, including Denver Water, will be asked to relocate their facilities ahead of the culvert construction. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. 2024 and 2025 Funding matches MHFD's future year model. As of August 18, 2025, this project is included in the City of Thornton's Fiscal Year 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Plan. Further information regarding a design firm and timeline for construction has not yet been established. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
