Due to space constraints, only one Prime Contractor Representative will be allowed underground to view the shaft. Masks are required by everyone while inside a building and underground. The pre-bid meeting format will adhere to social distancing and other guidance provided by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Attendees are responsible to bring their own face coverings. Prospective attendees exhibiting any cold or flu-like symptoms will not be admitted. These requirements may change; Responders are responsible for sending attendees who meet the requirements in effect at the time of the pre-bid meeting. A. The work will be done under one prime contract that includes: General, Mechanical, and Electrical construction. B. The following summary is a general guide to the scope of work. It should not be construed as a detailed list of work included in the contract. The work involves rehabilitation of the No. 8 shaft at Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park. The No. 8 shaft reaches 2,341 feet below the surface. Most of the work will occur between Mine Levels 19 and 21 (between 1,500 and 2,100 feet below the ground surface). The work consists of the following: 1. Mine Levels 19 to 24 work: a. Removing and disposing of precast concrete and corrugated steel panels from the shaft structure. b. Removing and disposing of dunnage, debris, and loose rock. c. Temporary ground control for shaft rock surfaces. d. Providing resin-grouted rockbolts. e. Providing reinforced shotcrete. f. Providing structural steel to replace existing deteriorating structural steel that provides support for the mine hoist and utilities. 2. Cleaning the 27th level shaft sump (2,340 ft below the ground surface). 3. Mine Levels 1 to 19 work: a. Replace or supplement existing steel beams in localized areas. Additonal Description: This project is Targeted Group/Economically Disadvantaged/Veteran-Owned preference. Questions on project will be accepted until 4:30 PM CT on March 31, 2022.
