Renovation of an educational facility in Newark, Delaware. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

As of November 9, 2023, per the owner, this project is being completed through private funding. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: Public Notice is hereby given that the University of Delaware is requesting proposals for architectural and engineering services for the Spencer Laboratory Deferred Maintenance and Design Studio Project. Question Deadline March 9, 2022 Answers via Addendum March 10, 2022 The project s scope includes all architectural, engineering and interior design required for the preparation of construction documents as well as construction administration services. Architectural services will include review and validation of previous planning and building conditions reports. The team will be responsible for the design and documentation of a fully functional and code compliant facility. The team will also be responsible for the advancement of the concept study for the Design Studio to a final program. Consultants/engineers shall be engaged by the Architect for all disciplines required for design. These disciplines include but are not limited to those listed below: Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing: The design work shall include, as required, fully coordinated HVAC and electrical systems for all HVAC systems, including equipment, piping, controls, risers and distribution. Provide coordinated design services for all primary, secondary and redundant power/electrical systems in accordance with recommendations from the University s Project Planning & Delivery (PPD), Maintenance & Operations (M&O), and Sustainability, Energy and Engineering (SEE) Departments. Provide coordinated design for telecommunication, audio visual, fire alarm (including duct detection and room devices) and systems including infrastructure, distribution and control rooms/closets, as well as conduits and pathways. Equipment Planning: All equipment for the Design Studio portion of the project is existing and to be temporarily stored and reused in the newly renovated space. The MAZAK and milling machines in Room 104 are to remain in place during construction, if possible. A KERN laser cutter has recently been purchased and is currently being stored offsite. The laser cutter will be part of the program in Room 104 of the Design Studio. Specification and supporting information for the KERN laser cutter are included as Attachment F. A comprehensive list of the existing equipment is included within Attachment D (Concept Study), more specifically Appendix B of the Delaware Engineering and Design report contained therein. Any equipment that is currently procured or that will be relocated from another location must be documented and coordinated with the construction documents. Design of the MEP infrastructure shall accommodate all existing and proposed equipment and allow for expansion of equipment for the future. Structural Design: Include all structural design services, as required, including but not limited to structural framing, seismic accommodations, equipment support and bracing, vibration mitigation, handrail and other specialized connections, and all associated calculations. In addition, include the structural design required to support the HVAC or other mechanical, electrical, plumbing or equipment. The design team will also be responsible for the assessment of an existing crack in the concrete floor in Room 104. The structural engineer shall provide direction/design in terms of repair or replacement. Interior Design: The design team will be responsible for the interior design and materials for the project, including FFE and finish and color recommendations for the Design Studio portion of the project. The design team will be responsible for presenting all color and finish materials to all University of Delaware review committees. Although, the university will procure furniture and equipment, the A/E team is responsible for the specification of all FFE and coordination of design and installation requirements for this scope. Security /Access Control: The design work shall provide, as required, for a security system and access control systems as defined by the program. Signage: Provide signage design including, directory signage, code required and way-finding signage, and all room signage. University of Delaware intends to utilize a construction manager as the delivery method. The design team will be required to submit a cost analysis/estimate at each phase of the design and will collaborate with the university to reconcile estimates and provide for a design that meets the construction budget. The total project budget is $26.2 million. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
