The Municipality of Clarington is inviting Proposals from qualified professional teams to provide consulting services for the development of a comprehensive, innovative and achievable Waterfront Strategy. The Waterfront Strategy will transform the Clarington Lakefront into a series of destinations with a strong identity and sense of place. The Municipality is seeking an exceptional firm with an affirmed track record of success and the requisite experience to deliver the Strategy and its accompanying concept plan. The successful Proponent will view this project as an opportunity to partner with the Municipality and to work closely with staff, community leaders, community members, stakeholders and commenting agencies. The Municipality is seeking to build on the unique natural and cultural heritage that characterizes Clarington and sets it apart. It is looking for a Waterfront Strategy that is practical and pragmatic and one that is uniquely tailored to meet the needs of the community. Interested Proponents are encouraged to acknowledge the important history, starting with Indigenous peoples, the commercial/utility/industrial history of waterfront use and recognize the need to develop an overall Strategy and site-specific concept plans that build on the past, honours the present and develops a truly remarkable waterfront vision for the Municipality. At the same time, the successful Proponent will recognize that in addition to the Waterfront, there are important inland linkages to cultural assets, in the urban cores via natural heritage areas, the north/south connections must be taken into account.
