Kingsville's Main Street is an area in transition. In recent years, Main Street has experienced an increase in development. New commercial development and redevelopment, residential intensification and conversions. These changes have impacted on traffic and created conflicts between land uses, and tensions between those encouraging growth and those in the community concerned that growth will change the character and the Main Street 'experience'. Except for events like Open Streets, the Main Street corridor is unfriendly to pedestrians and active transportation and a mix of restored and re-covered heritage structures. There was also a perceived lack of public input into these changes, and a noted lack of cohesive vision for downtown. Given its location, its prominence, and the opportunities associated with anticipated future changes in the corridor, the Town of Kingsville is seeking proposals to work with the Town and community to develop a Vision for Main Street, prepare a Main Street Plan and draft Main Street Design Policies to revitalize and transform the traditional 'main street' and surrounding community into a unique, vibrant, mixed-use destination based on principles of sustainability and resilience, economic and social vitality, place-making, cultural diversity, increased accessibility, connectivity and high quality design. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
