The Sherwood Site is an approximately 32-acre site assembled by the Economic Development Authority in 2016. As contemplated in the Denbigh-Warwick Area Plan, the Sherwood Site will leverage the replacement of Grissom Library as an anchor institution and the location of municipal services to create a highly visible and inviting community hub. Municipal services currently contemplated for the Sherwood Governmental Center include, but are not limited to, functions from the Grissom Annex - North Police precinct, Department of Human Services and Court Services. Recent activities have included moving Voter Registrar to the site. Other future considerations for the site may include a citizen "one-stop" which would include functions of the Department Codes Compliance, Commissioner of the Revenue and Treasurer. The Sherwood Governmental Center will make services and resources more directly accessible to citizens and businesses operating in the northern portion of the City, especially those currently delivered from the City Hall complex. Proposed funding will be utilized to facilitate planning and design for these facilities, as well as related construction activities following finalization of designs. This project is in included in the City of Newport News FY 2023-2027 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
