Site work and new construction of a library in Toronto, Ontario. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a 30,000-square-foot library.

Construction of a new district branch of approximately 30,000 square feet for the relocation of the St Lawrence Branch of the Toronto Public Libraries to city owned land at 125 the Esplanade south of the St Lawrence Market and west of David Crombie Park. As a 30,000 square foot district branch, the community will have access to more services and programs, expanded collections and additional multi-functional community and public spaces to work, study, create and learn. TIMELINE: The city of Toronto and the Toronto Public Library (TPL), and CreateTO announced the relocation and expansion of TPL St Lawrence Branch to City-owned land located at 125 The Esplanade. The project was incorporated into the 2023-2032 capital budget and plan submission. Recommendations to the TPL Board were considered at the Library Board Meeting March 28 2022. The design of the new branch, its programming, and services will all be identified through the library planning and public consultation processes which will proceed summer/fall, 2024. Requests For Proposals for architects to complete design may be issued mid/late 2024 pending approvals. Planning for the new branch is set to begin late 2024. Tender and construction are anticipated in 2025, and the official public opening taking place in 2027.
