Development near Varna Drive and Ranee Avenue for construction for a Net Zero Emissions Building (NZEB) hub facility which includes a new Lawrence Heights Community Recreation Centre (LH CRC). Proposed features include:
A six-lane, 25-metre lane pool; A leisure/tot pool; A double gymnasium with raised walking track; Universal change rooms and washrooms; Fitness/dance/aerobic studios; multi-purpose rooms; A community kitchen; A large lobby; Administrative space; An active roof; An outdoor playground with splash pad; Indigenous place-keeping elements; and WIFI access throughout the building.
In addition, the development is set to house a new childcare centre offering 88 spaces, including 10 for infants, 30 for toddlers, and 48 for preschool children. It would feature dedicated playrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, a toy washing station, a parent/staff resource room, and universal washrooms The facility will also include: Parent/staff resource room; Laundry room/toy washing station; Kitchen; Universal washrooms; Stroller storage space; Gross motor spaces; Lobby area; Infant playroom/sleep room; Toddler playrooms; Preschool playrooms; and Administrative and technical space. Federal and city of Toronto funding has been allocated for the project.
Program Review is being undertaken by the architect with the owner. Community Engagement will proceed through spring/summer 2024.
The detailed design phase commenced in Spring, 2024 and is expected to last until Spring, 2025, with construction anticipated to begin in 2026 and be complete by 2028.
Zoning approvals have been secured from the city of Toronto. Site plan approvals are required before the project can proceed, timing for the Site Plan Approval process are undetermined.
Tender is expected early 2025 for construction start late 2025/early 2026.
