Site work and paving for a road / highway in Salem, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
The curb shall be set to the proposed line and grade of the road with the top of the curb being 6 inches above the final proposed edge grade of the road surface. The trench for the curb shall be excavated to a width of 18 inches. The subgrade of the trench shall be a depth below the proposed finished grade of the curb equal to at least 6 inches plus the depth of the curbstone. The foundation for the curb shall consist of gravel (M1.03.0 Type c, maximum size of stone 2") spread upon the subgrade and after being thoroughly compacted by tamping shall be at least 6 inches in depth. After the curb is set the space behind it and the wall of the trench on the sidewalk side shall be filled with gravel thoroughly tamped to the grade of the bottom of the sidewalk, care being taken not to affect the line or grade of the curb. The space on the roadway side of the curb shall be filled with concrete from the elevation of the bottom of the curb to the elevation of the bottom of the street paving material. Any class of cement concrete that is acceptable under section M4 of the State Standards may be used. The top shall be filled with bituminous concrete Type I compacted to match the existing pavement. liquidated damages representing an estimate of delay damages, not as a penalty, the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) per day for each calendar day
