*As of April 21, 2022, a general contractor has been awarded. Furnishing all labor, equipment materials and incidentals necessary to properly construct a water main connection loop along the north side of Niobrara Avenue, between N. Mears Street and N. Maple Street. The water main shall be located along the back of curb of the north curb and gutter sections of Niobrara Avenue. The point of beginning shall be on the west side of North Mears Street. The project shall begin on the east side of the existing gate valve and at the termination of the previous installed 8 diameter PVC water main. The west termination shall end at the connection to an existing 8 diameter AC water main near the east edge of North Maple Street. The approximate length of the water main project is 750 lineal feet, including the installation of two fire hydrant assemblies with a six-inch diameter gate valve and box. There will be 11 water service taps to be installed on the new water main. The existing water main is located on the north side of the planned installation of the new 8 diameter water main. Water service to the existing dwellings shall be maintained during the installation of the new water main. There will be two water pressure tests and laboratory testing of the new water main installation. A review of the site will be included in the pre-bid meeting. Bids will be opened at 2:00 P.M., April 7, 2022; or as soon as possible thereafter, the bids will be opened on in the presence of all bidders in attendance. The Contractor shall be responsible for furnishing all labor, equipment, materials and incidentals necessary to properly construct an 8 diameter WATER MAIN CONNECTION LOOP along the north side of Niobrara Avenue as indicated on the plans and specifications. The approximate length of the 8 diameter water main is 750 lineal feet. The water main shall include appropriate fire hydrants and line valves. The extent of the work (All labor, materials, equipment, supplies and incidentals shall be furnished by the Contractor) for Water Main Connection Loop consists of connecting to the existing water main on the west side of North Mears Street. And then proceeding to the west along the north side of Niobrara Avenue to the existing water main running in a north/south direction along the east side of North Maple Street. The working pressure of the existing water main is 50 psi. Excavation and backfilling of the water main trench shall require conformance with OSHA and 29 CFR 1926, Subpart P. It is contemplated shoring of the pipe trench will be required in the vicinity of the power line poles parallel to the planned water main installation. Backfill shall be compacted to 90% of maximum dry density. Maximum lifts of backfill material shall be 8 loose depth prior to compaction. There has been no test drilling performed on the construction site, but it is contemplated some trench areas may require special bedding for the pipe installation. If contract award is made and the bidder fails to enter contract with the owner within ten (10) days, the bid security will be forfeited to the City of Chadron as liquidated damages. The City reserves the right to waive any irregularities, reject any or all bids and accept the bid advantageous to the City.
