All sod specified in this bid document shall be in compliance with standards established by the Turf Green Producers Association of Florida and Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. All sod shall be commercial grade quality. The Tifway 419 Bermuda sod shall be sand grown premium grade. The sod shall not contain any broadleaf or torpedo grass and no more than 2% of any other grass or weeds. All sod shall be checked for the pubescence on the upper surface that is characteristic of 419 Bermuda. Sod shall be well matted with heavy root development, firm texture, strongly rooted, not less than two years old. Sod shall contain no objectionable vegetation, fungi, fire ants, or disease and machine cut to pad thickness of 3/4" (plus or minus 1/4") excluding top growth and thatch. Provide only sod capable of vigorous growth and development when planted. The soil embedded in the sod shall be free of stones. The sod shall be cut in commercial size rectangles, with maximum 5% deviation in either length or width. Broken pads or pads with uneven ends will not be acceptable. Sod pads incapable of supporting their own weight when suspended vertically with a firm grasp on upper 10% of pad will be rejected. 1. ST. AUGUSTINE FLORATAM SOLID SOD (Stenotaphrum Secundatum): Commercial quality grade as specified by the Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. including but not be limited to the following: o Sod shall be well matted with strong developed roots and be not less than two years old, free of weeds and undesirable native grasses. Sod containing Bermuda grass will not be accepted. o Machine cut pad size: 12" x 24" x 3/4" (+/-1/4") excluding top growth and thatch. Sod must be mowed two days prior to cut and able to remain intact when suspended vertically with a firm grasp on upper 10% of pad. o Sod must be viable (not dormant) and capable of vigorous growth when planted. 2. BAHIA (Pasaalum Notatum Argentine): Commercial quality grade as specified by the Turf Green Producers Association of Florida and Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. including but not limited to the following: o Sod shall be well matted with strong developed roots and will not be less than two years old, free of weeds and undesirable native grasses. Sod containing Bermuda grass will not be accepted. o Machine cut pad size: 12" x 24" x 3/4" (+1/4") excluding top growth and thatch. Sod must be mowed two days prior to cut and able to remain intact when suspended vertically with a firm grasp on upper 10% of pad. o Sod must be viable (not dormant) and capable of vigorous growth when planted. 3. CERTIFIED BERMUDA (Tifway 419): Sod is to be certified by the Turf Green Producers Association of Florida and Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. An official labeling certificate is to accompany each shipment of sod. o Bermuda sod shall be of premium grade and sand grown. No Broadleaf weeds and no more than two percent of any other grass or weeds. Sod shall possess characteristic upper surface pubescence. Sod shall be well matted with strong developed roots and be not less than two years old. o Machine cut pad size: 12" x 24" (except for "Big Roll" Bermuda Sod which shall be delivered as harvested 42" wide x 60' long rolls) x 3/4 " (+/-1/4") excluding top growth and thatch. Sod must be mowed two days prior to cut and able to remain intact when suspended vertically with a firm grasp on upper 10% of pad. o Sod must be viable (not dormant) and capable of vigorous growth when planted. B. SPRIGS (CERTIFIED BERMUDA SPRIGS. (TIFWAY 419) Sod is to be certified by the Turf Green Producers Association of Florida and Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. An official labeling certificate is to accompany each shipment of sod and be provided to the Facilities Management Coordinator (FMC). o Installed pricing shall be based on a minimum of 200 bushels of sprigs per quarter acre. o Installer shall clean all adjacent areas soiled during installation and remove all pallets from site. C. PREPARATION AND INSTALLATION OF SOD Vendor shall be responsible for the removal and disposal of all vegetation and rocks one (1) inch in diameter or larger in area to be sodded. Grade and level area so that new sod meets existing grade. Area must be free of weeds and debris prior to installing sod. The School District shall be responsible for locating, marking and raising irrigation heads and utility boxes in areas to be sodded. Vendor must give a minimum of 48-hour notice to the Facilities Management Coordinator (FMC) prior to preparation of areas to be sodded. Vendor shall be responsible for any damage to the utility boxes or irrigation system once heads have been located and marked by the School District. Vendor shall contact the Facilities Management Coordinator (FMC) 24-hours prior to sod being laid to coordinate watering of sod. Installation shall be in accordance with the guidelines specified by the Southern Seed Certification Association, Inc. and including but not limited to the following: . Vendor shall cut and smooth out depressions created by loaders, forklifts, etc. and move all pallets as required. . All sod shall be planted within 48-hours of cutting and shall be kept shaded and moist. Sod shall be placed edge to edge by hand with tight fitted joints. . After installation sod shall immediately be pressed firmly into contact with a 2,000 pound (minimum) roller. This operation shall provide a true and even surface and insure knitting without displacement to sod or deformation of the surface of the sodded areas. Areas inaccessible to rollers shall be hand tamped or hand rolled. . Sod shall be pegged into place with not less than two stakes per square yard on slopes having a ratio greater than or equal to 1:3. . Vendor shall clean all adjacent areas soiled during installation and remove all pallets from site. . Vendor shall remove all mesh materials from rolled sod prior to installation. . Vendor shall apply as a minimum 1/4 " of top-dress soil on all planted sod areas. Top-dress soil shall be formed from silica, quartz, and other hard rock materials. Sand of soft origin, such as limestone, coral and other calcareous materials will not be acceptable. . Vendor shall apply Roundup to kill off existing turf areas as required by the School District. . Vendor shall provide Fill Material free from clay, rock or gravel larger than one inch in any dimension, debris, waste, frozen materials, vegetable and other deleterious matter. D. SUBGRADE PREPARATION Loosen sub-grade of lawn areas to a minimum depth of 2" to 4". Remove stones over 1-1/3" in any dimension and sticks, roots, rubbish and other extraneous matter. Limit preparation to areas which will be planted promptly after preparation. Allow for sod thickness in areas to be sodded. E. CLEANUP AND PROTECTION During landscape work, keep pavements clean and work area in an orderly condition. Protect sod from damage due to work by other contractors and trespassers. Treat, repair or replace damaged sod as directed by the School District. F. INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE When sodding work is completed, the School District's representative will make an inspection to determine acceptability. Sod projects may be inspected for acceptance as work progresses on agreement with District's representative provided the partial sod work ready for inspection is completely installed. When inspected sod work does not comply with specifications, it must be corrected and re-inspected for acceptability. Awarded vendor shall remove rejected sod material promptly from project site. G. PRICING REQUIREMENTS Bidders should quote separate prices to: 1. Furnish and install sod. 2. Pallet deliveries and off-loading, not installed. 3. Pickup of sod by District personnel from a sod supplier. Contract duration: 3 years Q & A deadline: Mar 31, 2022 5:00:00 PM EDT
