Live Load: The bridges shall meet a minimum loading of HL93. Structural Steel: All structural steel shall be of domestic (USA) manufacture and shall conform to the requirements of ASTM Specification A709 Grade 50W (A-588 weathering steel), with exterior surfaces of girders being blast-cleaned (blast clean method or SSPC-SP7) prior to shipping to assure uniform weathering Decking: The steel bridge decking shall be 4.25 inches deep by 12 inch lay length by nine-gauge "type A" rolled formed hot-dipped galvanized corrugated steel conforming to ASTM A609 grade 50, and shall be placed perpendicular to the direction of traffic. The deck shall have a positive connection joining the deck panels of the modular bridge sections. A weathering nine-gauge side dam shall be furnished and shall extend at least four inches above the top of the deck. 48"-width decking of 3" x 12" #2 Douglas-fir treated timber running plank shall be installed over the steel deck in accordance with the bridge fabricator's recommendations. Guard Rail: Guard rail shall be 12-gauge weathering or hot-dipped galvanized "W-beam" steel guide rail with standard flared metal end terminals. Crystal delineators shall be attached to the guide rail at alternating posts. Lifting and placement: Fabricator shall provide lifting lugs or rings and/or a design to facilitate installation and moving of the modules using cables, straps and other standard crane and construction hardware. Sections must be transportable under standard highway load limits. Hardware: Manufacturer-recommended bearing plates, elastomeric bearing pads and assembly bolts shall be included. Bulkheads/backwalls: Manufacturer shall furnish an acceptable bulkhead/backwall for each end of the bridge to support the roadway at the end of the bridge. The bulkhead/backwall shall be hot-dipped galvanized steel with a minimum thickness of seven-gauge and shall extend from the top of the bridge footing to the top of the bridge stringers and extend at least 48 inches beyond each side of the bridge to act as wingwalls for bridge approach fills. Certification of Materials: Mill test certificates shall be furnished for the steel stringers and the bridge deck. Certified mill test reports for steel bridge stringers with specified values shall include, in addition to other test results, the results of Charpy V-notch impact tests. Reinforced precast bearing pads or equivalent portable abutments: The bearing pads should be 30"x18"x16' reinforced, precast concrete bearing pads (i.e. standard bearing fill for a 14' wide modular bridge) or equivalent portable abutments. Reinforced precast bearing pads or "equivalent portable abutments" must be ready to use upon delivery without the need for additional concrete or engineering. While the State has every intention to award a contract as a result of this IFB, issuance of the IFB in no way constitutes a commitment by the State of Montana to award and execute a contract. Upon a determination such actions would be in its best interest, the State, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to: o Cancel or terminate this IFB (18-4-307, MCA); o Waive any undesirable, inconsequential, or inconsistent provisions of this IFB which would not have significant impact on any bid (ARM 2.5.505); or o If awarded, terminate any contract if the State determines adequate state funds are not available The bridge shall be fabricated, delivered and unloaded at the location listed below on or before October 15, 2022.
