Site work, new construction and renovation of a medical facility in Barrie, Ontario. Design plans call for the construction of a 730,000-square-foot, nine-story above grade medical facility.

Construction of a nine-storey inpatient tower on the current Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre campus in size which will double the size of the existing campus. North Campus redevelopment will start with maximizing the existing building, including the empty shelled units that were built as part of the 2012 expansion. We will increase clinical services, including critical care, maternal/child, cancer care, and mental health. We will also expand our non-clinical building, called Rotary Place, to free up space for patient care in the main building. The Rotary Place administrative building will be doubled to accommodate more non-clinical services that are currently occupying space in the main building. The nine-storey, T-shaped tower is to be built where the field hospital is currently located, southeast of the current main structure. It will accommodate large operating suites for the more complicated operations that require inpatient stays, as well as more inpatient beds. The scope of the tower includes a T-shaped, nine-storey, 730,000 square foot tower on the west side of the current campus accommodating more than 200 additional inpatient beds. A helipad will be located on the roof of the tower. The tower will bring the total beds at RVH to 656. TIMELINE: This project is on hold. A pre-capital submission was made to the Ministry of Health in January 2020. Diamond & Schmitt Architects are acting as prime consultant on behalf of the owner. The Stage 1 Business case is under review. Further design, tender and construction timing will be determined in 2024 based on provincial funding approvals. *Total project value has been estimated at $2.3 billion.
