As of April 8, 2022, this project is in the preliminary design phase and pending funding. Engineer firm information has not been disclosed. Although a firm timeline for construction has not been determined, construction is expected to start in 2028. The 15th Avenue Bridge over the Rock River substructure dates back to 1933 and is nearing its useful life. It is estimated that in five to ten years, the bridge will need to be closed to traffic. In order to proactively begin the process of replacing the structure, the City has applied for federal funding assistance through the Illinois Special Bridge Program.
