The County of Manistee is seeking proposals from professional consulting firms/teams to provide professional and technical expertise for the preparation of the County Master Plan. The current Manistee County Master Plan was developed in 2008 and adopted in January 2009. Per the Michigan Planning Enabling Act, every five years an adopted Master Plan should be reviewed, and a determination made if an update should occur. The Manistee County Planning Commission is recommending a rewrite of the 2008 Manistee County Master Plan. The County will assist the Contractor in the development of a new Master Plan built around a new format. In addition to traditional goals of population, economy, housing, transportation, community facilities, employment, and land use. A goal of the new Master Plan would be to see if the public supports the County moving to a single zoning ordinance with a joint County Planning Commission utilizing the same language regarding definitions, processes for variances, Planned Unit Developments (PUDs), and Special Land Uses (SLU), but retaining the municipalities own zoning districts. Manistee County is located in the Northwest Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The County's 1,281 square miles, of which 58% is water and the remaining is land, has a population of 25,032 as of the 2020 Census. The population density of Manistee County is 46/square mile. US-31 runs the entirety of the County from Mason County in Southwest to Benzie County in the North. US-31 intersects with M-55 which runs the entirety of the County from Manistee Township in the West to Wexford County in the East. M-115 runs along the Northeastern part of the County and all highway systems offer excellent highway access for residents and visitors alike. It is expected that Contractor Staff will attend six (6) County Planning Commission meetings, and two (2) Board of Commissioner meetings over the course of the 12-14-month process starting fiscal year 2022- 23. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
