The AfriCafe building at the Oregon Zoo requires two different roofing improvement projects: Turret Shingle Re-roof and Maintenance. The Turret shingle re-roof needs to be completed prior to the summer season. The maintenance can be completed prior to the summer or be coordinated during or after the busiest portions of the summer. and Maintenance. The Turret shingle re-roof needs to be completed prior to the summer season. The maintenance
can be completed prior to the summer or be coordinated during or after the busiest portions of the summer.
AfriCafe Turret Shingle Re-roof (approximately 2,100 sq. ft.)
o Remove and dispose of the existing roofing.
o Replace any dry rot at a time and material basis.
o Take a sample of the existing roof to test for asbestos containing material (ACM).
o Provide an asbestos report verifying no ACM is present, or provide additional quote for asbestos removal
specific to the findings of the testing.
o Provide and install a Malarkey start smart synthetic underlayment (or approved equal).
o Provide and install Malarkey Legacy AB shingles (or approved equal).
o Provide and install Malarkey 10" Hip & Ridge (or approved equal).
o Provide and install 24ga pre-painted drip edge and counter flashing.
o Clean and prep the existing sheet metal flashing for painting.
o Mask off the new shingles to protect from overspray.
o Paint the prepped areas with the paint supplied by others.
o Remove and dispose of any debris associated with this work.
o Provide a 2 year installers warranty.
o Provide a manufactures limited lifetime warranty
AfriCafe Maintenance (approximately 6,600 sq. ft.)
o Clean roof of all debris
o Areas of delamination will be repaired using Tremco Ecolastic, or approved equal, coating and reinforcing
fabric
o All rotted sleepers will be replaced with new pressure treated lumber to match existing
o Visually inspect the roof surface and patch as needed
o Provide and install Tremco Alumination 301, or approved equal, fibered coating at a rate of 2.5
gallons/square foot
