The existing two-barrel culvert is in poor condition. Undermining is caused by erosion through the stacked stone walls. The headwalls are in fair condition, but there is no guide railing at either the inlet or outlet ends of the culvert, posing a safety concern for motorists. The project will replace the existing two-barrel culvert with a four-sided, precast concrete 10'W by 3'H box culvert. Wingwalls will be either precast or cast-in-place. The proposed culvert will be longer than the existing, to increase the clear distance to the culvert ends. Guide railing will be installed at the inlet and outlet ends of the culvert. An adjacent, existing town drain pipe and headwall will be retained; the existing paved surface drain will be replaced with a catch basin. No property acquisition will be required, all work will be contained within the existing right-of-way. A stream disturbance permit will be required from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as a general permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers.
