Description of Existing Area As part of a larger development centered around the Genesee River in Rochester, OPRHP is seeking to advance design for the creation of a new state park at the High Falls area. This new park aims to provide public access to the land surrounding this unique natural environment that is set within the context of the river, gorge, waterfalls and surrounding urban backdrop. Further, the site's industrial history provides many interpretive opportunities. The proposed 40-acre park is situated within the High Falls Gorge on a collection of land parcels having various current owners. Many of these parcels will require some level of environmental remediation which are expected to be completed (by others) prior to construction. The remediation is expected to occur over the course of the next one to five years and this will allow for phased construction of the new park's facilities via multiple construction contracts throughout this period.
