Renovation of a mixed-use development in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Completed plans call for the renovation of a stadium.
Design-Build Services for ice and lighting replacement at 3M at Mariucci and Ridder Arenas, located on the east bank of the Twin Cities campus. Refer to the Request for Proposal documents (found in the Attachments tab) for full project details/requirements. In celebration of 100 years of Gopher Hockey at the University of Minnesota, a comprehensive Predesign for 3M at Mariucci (3MAM) and Ridder Arenas was developed with Intercollegiate Athletics which includes fan and player enhancements along with facility improvements. These enhancements/ improvements will be the catapult to ensurea welcoming/ immersive experience for the next 100 years of Gopher Hockey. Based on funding requirements the project is broken into two (2) potential Phases: 1. Phase 1 - 3MAM & Ridder Ice Replacement/ 3MAM Lighting 2. Phase 2 - 3MAM & Ridder Facility Improvements 1. 3MAM & Ridder Ice Refrigerant Replacement: The existing ice sheets utilizes an R-22 refrigerant system which has been banned federally for production. The availability and cost of the R-22 is requiring the replacement of the refrigerant system. Direction is to utilize an Ammonia based refrigerant system. Replacement includes a centralized system in 3MAM for both the 3MAM and Ridder Arenas. Ice sheets will be required to be deconstructed so piping systems can be replaced. The combined system will lower the maintenance and energy costs vs standalone system in each Arena. 2. 3MAM Reduction in Ice Size: 3MAM Arena was built based on an Olympic sized ice sheet width of 100'-0" vs the NHL/ new collegiate ice sheets widths of 85'-0". To improve recruiting and the competitive nature of Men's Hockey, the ice sheet width will be shrunk to 89'-0" in coordination with the refrigerant replacement, which will require the lowering of the ice to maintain sight lines and fan experience. The reduction of ice size will increase rink side seating capacity. 3. 3MAM Lighting: Replace existing bowl/ ice lighting with new LED lighting which will provide long term energy/ cost savings along with improved light condition for fan experience and TV production. Integrate with the ice replacement scope due to access requirements of the lighting system/ ceiling. construction budget - $10,995,000
