Construction of an aquatic and sports centre in the Montréal-Nord borough of Montréal on the site of the former Garon arena. The scope of work will include the construction of an aquatic centre housing two sport pools, including a 25-meter pool and a leisure pool, and a sports section housing a double gymnasium, a gymnastics hall, a three-lane walking track, locker rooms, bleachers, and administrative offices for organizations. Adapted to the current and future needs of the community, this modern facility will offer enhanced and diversified recreational and sports programs for citizens of all age groups in the borough of Montréal-Nord. The project will aim LEED Gold v4 certification. Once the project's financial structure is completed and the construction work is finished, the sports and aquatic facilities will be connected. TIMELINE: The project is in a preliminary pre-concept stage. The owner has awarded the firm Première équipe Architecture to develop different possible implementation options for the Montreal-North Aquatic and Sports Complex project. Preliminary studies and preparation of a functional and technical program of the project are underway. Scope of work and timelines of the project development are being finalized. Notes: - The funding package for construction of the complex will include confirmed contributions of $88 million from the City and $15 million from the federal government. - With the help of the confirmed funds the owner expects to start the planning of the aquatic component of the complex in 2026. Work is expected to begin in 2028, with a potential opening four years later.
