New Hanover County is requesting bids for the 11'x4' box culvert shown in the attached plans. It is a double-barrel box culvert with an 18-inch sill in the high flow barrel. The box will need to meet NCDOT standards. Bearing capacity of the soil is expected to be very poor. In addition to the box culvert, there are 4 wingwalls indicated on the plan (2 on each end of the structure), some class III RCP, and a junction box structure. Rim elevation of the junction box structure will be 11.98'. The manhole ring and cover will be a solid lid marked "Storm" and must be NCDOT stamped and domestic to meet NCDOT standards and specifications. To accommodate the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) requirements for embedment in the stream channel, each section of the box will need to be constructed in two pieces to facilitate placing 1-foot of material inside the box culvert prior to installing the top slab. The box culvert needs to be a solid double barrel culvert with a wall in the center. Each section of the box will need to be set as two separate pieces. The first piece consisting of the bottom, sides, and center wall of the box culvert. The second piece consisting of the top slab of the box culvert. This will allow for placement of material inside of the box culvert during construction to meet the 1' embedment requirement.
