Site work for a water / sewer project in Newtown, Connecticut. Conceptual plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The Town of Newtown and its Water & Sewer Authority (WSA) seek to engage the services of a professional engineering firm, licensed in Connecticut, to perform initial and final design; put out to bid; provide inspection services; provide construction management of and finally oversee system wide commissioning and certification of meeting all federal, state and local government requirements for replacement of an existing potable, public water system on the Town of Newtown, Fairfield Hills Campus. Scope: The scope of work for this project includes but is not limited to replacing all cast iron (CI) and where necessary ductile iron pipe (DIP) with HDPE (high density poly ethylene pipe) or where practical and financially desired with slip streamed plastic liner. Replace all valves, as necessary. Replace all fire hydrants not previously upgraded. Install new laterals to all buildings currently in use, if not previously replaced. Provide a curb box hook up valve for all unoccupied buildings for possible future use. The piping quantities noting the current pipe sizes are approximately the following: 8" 6,800 LF; 10" 5,500 LF; 12" 2,000; 16" 2,200 LF. There is at least eight (8) hydrants needing replacement. Work will include the functional overhaul of Well #8 and completing an interconnection with Aquarion Water Systems. Final design may require more than 18,000 LF of piping to accomplish all goals. Funding: At the current time, all funding is Town apportioned ARP monies ($1,500,000) with any additional funding requirements provided by the WSA fund balance ($1,000,000). Timely identifiable outside funding sources would be welcome. Special Conditions / Expedited Targeted Design: There currently is an EDA funded sewer replacement project underway in the same area as this water distribution line replacement. It would be the hope of the Town that the portion of the design that would impact the existing parts of the sewer project could be let to bid in time so that street areas impacted by both projects could be paved at the same time. Mandatory Letter of Intent To Register for the Site Visit and Information Session is due no later than May 13, 2022, in the Office of the Finance Director (address noted below) Final proposals, which shall include as a minimum: list of similar completed projects; identification of personnel designated for this project; price proposals that include hourly charge for personnel and project lump sum, will be submitted to the Office of the Finance Director, Town of Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT, 06470 Contact Information: while mapping of the existing water system and the current sewer project will be made available at the information session, for any further questions contact Fred Hurley, Director of Public Works, 4 Turkey Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06479 (203)270-4300 or fred.hurley@newtown-ct.gov.
