Renovation of a museum in Hampton, Virginia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a museum.
The Fort Monroe Authority (FMA) is seeking Statements of Qualifications for improvements to the Casemate Museum and the west Bastion/Postern Gate located at 20 Bernard Road, Fort Monroe, VA. Qualified contractors will be invited to submit a sealed bid on the project by separate invitation for bid. The project consists of removal of brick masonry infill in two stone arched openings and installing glass storefront to create a view into the Casemate Museum from the Postern Gate passage. Also included is the temporary removal and re-laying of brick pavers in the Casemate Museum and in the passage and providing new lighting and power within the passage. Building 20 is a contributing element to the Fort Monroe National Historic Landmark District (NHL) and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). All work must be done in accordance with the Fort Monroe Historic Preservation Manual and Design Standards. The Work shall also comply with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The scope of the work generally includes removing 8 thick brick masonry walls from within two stone archways and cleaning the remaining debris from the stone. The archways are planned to be infilled with a brick masonry foundation supporting a steel subframe in which a butt glazed storefront system will be inserted. This will require the removal, and salvage, of historic brick pavers in both the Casemate Museum and the passageway and reinstallation of the pavers to match the existing pattern(s). Within the passageway approximately 1,400 square feet of pavers will be removed, the setting bed improved, and the pavers reinstalled in the historic pattern. In conjunction with this effort, new up-lighting will be incorporated into the pavers. Removal of existing lighting and power circuitry within the passage is included as well as providing new circuits. Statement of Qualifications, for furnishing the services described herein will be received until 2:00 PM local time on January 29, 2024. Qualifications must be submitted electronically through eVA by the deadline stated. Anticipated Construction Start Date: May 2024 Anticipated Construction Duration: 90 consecutive calendar days from the date of the commencement of the Work as specified in the Notice to Proceed. The Owner reserves the right to visit the office(s) of an Offeror to verify any claim(s) made by an Offeror regarding staff, facilities, capabilities, qualifications, and any other reasonable concerns that may arise on the part of the Owner.
