The East Bathhouse at Jones Beach, designed by Herbert Magoon, was the first building constructed under the auspices of Robert Moses and the Long Island Parks Commission. Built in 1929, it is listed as a contributing building in Jones Beach State Park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally designed to accommodate bathers at the beach with changing areas and food service, in the1960s the bathhouse was expanded to feature a large swimming pool with changing areas relocated to newly constructed wings to the east and west of the central courtyard. The East Bathhouse was removed from service in 2012 with the exception of the concession areas (food service and retail) on the beach side of the complex. The East Bathhouse Rehabilitation project is being undertaken to reimagine the complex as an exciting waterplay venue for beachgoers, families, and groups in particular. A splash pad/water feature area should be the focal point of the reimagination project, as well as the development of new food and drink opportunities. The historic building complex needs significant rehabilitation to accommodate the proposed uses and be universally accessible. Construction Manager to engage a qualified consultant to conduct a feasibility study and associated work to obtain a Project Labor Agreement. Assist as needed with Best Value contractor procurement.
