Site work for a water / sewer project in Wanchese, North Carolina. Design plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The Lot 28A waterfront infrastructure is used for offloading seafood products and consists of a timber bulkhead wall (150' in length along the shoreline) and a lower level 450 sq. ft. concrete platform/dock area (8" thick concrete) supported by timber pilings. Both the timber bulkhead and platform are deteriorating and the structural integrity of both are now in jeopardy. The bulkhead is shifting, causing upland adjacent work areas to sink and depress. A forklift ramp on the platform/dock area is caving in, causing a safety issue and becoming unusable - a sign of major structural deterioration. Project includes demolition and removal of entire existing bulkhead wall and platform/dock area. Replacement infrastructure will include the installation of a stronger concrete bulkhead wall along the upland shoreline. The concrete platform/dock area will be redesigned. The area will be enclosed with a new steel sheet pile bulkhead and then backfilled - removing the need for structural pilings. A new concrete platform will be installed on the newly enclosed and backfilled platform area. This will ensure structural integrity into the future. As of March 12, 2024, a design firm has been selected. Further details regarding firm construction and completion timelines have not been identified.
