On behalf of the Alberta-British Columbia Boundary Commission, the Director of Surveys Office (Surveys Unit, Lands Policy and Programs Branch, Lands Division, Alberta Environment and Parks) ("Surveys Unit") is accepting proposals from professional land surveyors to inspect monuments marking the boundary between Alberta and British Columbia at Miette Pass and Robson Pass. Miette Pass and Robson Pass are both located ~42 km (Miette Pass) and ~75 km (Robson Pass) northwest of Jasper, Alberta. This portion of the interprovincial boundary also forms the boundary between Jasper National Park and Mount Robson Provincial Park. This work is being conducted under the authority of the Alberta-British Columbia (AB-BC) Boundary Commission. These portions of the interprovincial boundary were originally surveyed in 1924 by R.W. Cautley, DLS. The boundary monuments at Miette Pass have not been formally inspected since they were originally established. Similarly, the boundary monuments at Robson Pass have not been formally inspected barring casual visits reported to the Boundary Commission regarding monuments 1U and 2U. The purpose of this project is to inspect and report on the current condition of the monuments at each pass. The Boundary Commission will then use this information to consider what steps (if any) are required to restore the physical definition of the interprovincial boundary at each pass. The inspection surveys at Miette Pass and Robson Pass will be the first phase in what is typically a two phase project: Under Phase 1, a contractor will be engaged to inspect and geo-reference the interprovincial boundary monuments at Miette Pass and Robson Pass. The report will discuss the physical condition of each of the monuments, contain information regarding access to the passes and the monuments, and the geographic/UTM coordinates (NAD83(CSRS) Epoch 2002) and elevation of each monument inspected. Under Phase 2 (funding dependent), a contractor will be engaged to restore those boundary monuments reported on in Phase 1 that require restoration. The number of monuments to be restored will be determined in Phase 1. The Method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this time.
