The new construction will include a new 4-H, Youth, and Community Arena, an expansion of the Mac Equipment Warm-Up Arena, an expansion of the complex's maintenance building, new Department of Natural Resources offices for county employees, outdoor riding arenas, locations for RV camping, new roadways, improved lighting on existing roads, and new trailer parking areas, for a total cost of approximately $31 million, according to a memo to Larimer County commissioners and a presentation from Mark Tinklenberg, senior operations manager at The Ranch, to the commissioners on Monday. A vote is required to approve the construction, set for Tuesday, July 26, but commissioners have signaled that they support it, going so far as to approve of a county staff decision to put the item on the consent agenda for their meeting on Tuesday. Consent agendas are typically used for routine business and include many items that are all voted on at the same time without further discussion. The Ranch began as a new site for the Larimer County fairgrounds, approved by voters in 1998, and in addition to the county fair hosts events year-round including conferences, shows like the Big Thunder Draft Horse Show, high school graduations, concerts and comedy performances, among others. One of the primary goals of the new construction is safety, according to Tinklenberg. "One of the ways we intend to create a safe environment is the realignment of Arena Circle creating a space where we don't have patrons walking across oncoming traffic," he said. New lighting also will be added across the complex to further increase safety for pedestrians. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for Sunday, Aug. 7, during the fair, and commissioners as well as Loveland City Council members are invited, according to Laurie Kadrich, director of Community Planning, Infrastructure & Resources. Lot, new trailer parking, and a potential outdoor arena. Phase 1 Infrastructure Package is already underway which consists of relocation of Arena Circle, construction of Andalusian Road, extension of Clydesdale Parkway, and signalization and improvements of two Fairgrounds Avenue intersections.
