Renovation of an educational facility in Akron, Ohio. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
These funds will be used for design and planning costs associated with renovating about 80,000 square feet of the Central Hower Building for the School of Art and razing the remaining 160,000 square feet of the building. According to UAK, the Central Hower Building has approximately $43 million of deferred maintenance. The renovation is expected to eliminate the deferred maintenance cost and reduce annual operating costs by approximately $250,000. The renovations are slated to begin in the FY 2025-FY 2026 biennium. The total project cost is estimated to be approximately $32.2 million, including $20.0 million from non-state sources. This project is in included in the Legislative Service Commission, Inc. FY 2023-2024 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of June 7, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
