Renovation of a fitness / recreation center in Dayton, Ohio. Completed plans call for the renovation of a fitness / recreation center.
https://www.bizjournals.com/dayton/news/2024/09/23/ymca-springboro-englewood-huber-minster-expand.html One of Dayton's largest nonprofits is to undertake renovation projects at multiple sites in the region. Upon completion, the expanded facilities will better serve current and future members within the Miami Valley. The YMCA of Greater Dayton currently is undertaking four construction projects throughout the region. The renovation efforts include projects in Huber Heights, Minster, Englewood and Springboro. "These initiatives reflect the YMCA's ongoing dedication to meeting the evolving needs of the community through strategic partnerships and thoughtful development," said Dale Brunner, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Dayton. The effort is funded by community donations and government support. The enhancements are aimed to provide more opportunities for health and wellness activities for residents of all ages. The renovated facility is anticipated to open in February 2025. The new center will offer dedicated spaces and programs tailored to the needs of the senior community. YMCA officials are expecting a December 2024 opening date. Once construction on the senior center is wrapped up, the Huber Heights facility will see another expansion in the form of a new gymnasium and functional fitness room as well, Brunner said. Scheduled to open in November 2024, renovations are underway at the Kleptz YMCA in Englewood to convert the former Sinclair space into administrative offices for Northmont City Schools. The school system will bring their administration and board offices into the Kleptz YMCA, according to Brunner. The renovated space will possibly house preschool programs in the future. Lastly in Springboro, renovation efforts are underway at YMCA Coffman, where a new functional fitness room is being added, along with other facility upgrades. These $750,000 improvements aim to enhance members' experiences by providing modern, versatile fitness options. The fitness room will open in January 2025. "It's all about community need, and fortunately, the community has really supported the YMCA in Springboro," Brunner said. "When members are asking for certain types of new programming, we want to try and offer as much as can to the community." The expansion will span around 1,700 square feet and include a new outdoor turf area. The Springboro facility is the largest Greater Dayton YMCA, Brunner said. The addition will be the fourth the facility has received since opening in 2000. Across its 13 Dayton locations, the YMCA has around 30,500 community members. The nonprofit organization offers many different programs to members including day and overnight camps for children, dance classes, sports leagues, personal training, fitness classes and more. Among the most popular activities are the youth sports programs, which saw over 11,000 kids participate in 2023, according to Brunner. "The YMCA has been embraced in so many different communities and surrounding the Miami Valley," Brunner said. "We're just so fortunate to employ close to 1,700 people in our community and we are appreciative of everything the Dayton community has given us." The nonprofit YMCA network is based on Christian principles with a goal to enrich the quality of family, spiritual, social, mental and physical well being for all. The organization boasts over 40 community program sites and serves over 207,000 youth and families each year. YMCA of Greater Dayton Location: 118 W.
