Saving Project...

Addition to a museum in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut. Completed plans call for the addition of a museum.

In 2012 the Nattilik Heritage Society built a 307m2 heritage, arts and culture centre in the heart of Gjoa Haven. The Nattilik Heritage Centre (NHC) was designed to incorporate the cultures of both the early white explorers and the local Nattilik Inuit, the Centre houses offices for the Nattilik Heritage Society (NHS) and an exceptional museum with some truly priceless Inuit artifacts and the recovered bell from HMS Terror. With the recent discovery, ongoing excavation and study of the 1845 Franklin Expedition's ships, the NHS has partnered with funding bodies Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), Parks Canada and the Government of Nunavut to expand the NHC. The expansion is to establish a Wrecks of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror National Historic Site, interpretative facility and artifact display (Parks Canada), as well as an expansion of the Arts and Tourism Sectors (CanNor). With an increase of tourism to the area the expansion of the Nattilik Heritage Centre will provide the community with an excellent opportunity to share their stories, their art and their culture with all the visitors from around the globe. It will be the center and the focal point of Gjoa Haven and it is critical to the development of tourism growth in Nunavut. The Nattilik Heritage Society is welcoming designers and builders from around Canada to submit proposals to complete the design and construction of the new expansion. This Request for Proposals provides a detailed outline of what is expected from the chosen Design-Builder. Regardless of previous experiences, this project has the potential to be a showpiece for any contractor wanting to continue working in Nunavut. Official bid documents must be obtained from www.merx.com and bid submissions must be done through the Merx platform.
