The Town of Essex is seeking qualified landscaping and/or tree service contractors for the planting of street trees to replace ash trees that were removed in spring 2022 due to the threat of emerald ash borer (EAB). A total of thirty (30) trees are to be planted and mulched at various locations along streets as noted on the Quote Sheet. The deadline for planting is September 30, 2022; trees will carry a one-year guarantee that includes any required watering and maintenance. All proposals shall be submitted on the forms provided with the Request for proposals, with the sum total cost for trees planted and maintenance performed as the basis for overall award of the contract. The Selectboard of the Town of Essex reserves the right to increase or decrease the work and amounts stated in the quote request, as may be necessary; to reject any or all proposals received; and to waive any informalities in the proposals or to accept any proposal should the Board of Selectmen deem it in their best interests. The Contractor shall submit with his or her proposal a signed copy of the Town's Hold Harmless Agreement and Contractors Qualification form. Copies of each are provided within the invitation to quote. The Contractor shall make every effort to visit each site and become familiar with it before submitting a proposal. Failure of the Contractor to acquaint themselves with the specifics of each tree planting site shall not relieve the Contractor of any responsibility to perform under the contract. All plant material and performance of work shall conform to the Tree Planting Specifications for the Vermont Urban and Community Forestry Program (attached) and the Town of Essex Standard Specifications for Construction. Any conflict between documents will defer to the Urban and Community Forestry Program specifications.
