The City of San Diego (City), Public Utilities Department (PUD) is implementing the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Citywide Implementation Program (AMI Program) that will deploy AMI technology to approximately 280,000 customer installations across the City's water service territory. The work will take place throughout the City of San Diego and other customer installations located in San Diego County. The water system extends over 404 square miles serving nearly 1.4 million customers with a water demand of approximately 200 million gallons per day. The City selected and procured an AMI system from Itron, Inc., as part of its initial AMI System Implementation Project under a separate contract. City forces have deployed AMI-ready meters and encoder receiver transmitters (ERTs) to approximately 6,400 connections with approximately 268,000 water meters remaining in scope for the AMI Program, of which approximately 220,000 are for single family residential customers. In addition, approximately 100,000 AMI compatible meters have been installed and are pending ERTs. As a result, the scope of the AMI Program moving forward is to equip 100,000 AMI-ready meters with ERT's and to install new AMI-ready meters and ERT's on approximately 168,000 connections. This Scope of Services is for an AMI As-Needed Engineering Technical Consultant (AMI Consultant) to drive execution of the installation and integration phases of the AMI Citywide Implementation Project from planning through contractor close-out and data integrity confirmation, in coordination with other separately contracted services. On an As-Needed basis, the selected AMI Consultant may be asked to establish the project oversight framework; assist with the procurement of installation contractors; provide management oversight and project controls during the entire project; assist with customer outreach and communication efforts; and help manage the AMI technical solution integration(s) with City information and business management systems.
