According to the City's General Plan, Avenue 50 is designated as a four-lane boulevard with median or center left turn lane. Avenue 50 is also designated as a "Community Connector" in the Coachella Valley Association of Government's (CVAG's) Coachella Valley (CV) Link Master Plan and the City's General Plan Bicycle Network includes a Class IV - Cycle Track along this segment of Avenue 50. Pedestrian facilities will also be included along Avenue 50. A segment of Avenue 50, from Jefferson Street to Madison Street, will be improved in coordination with the City of La Quinta. Improvements in the City of La Quinta include widening Avenue 50 to accommodate two eastbound lanes, bike lanes on each side, sidewalk on north side of Avenue 50, DG trail on southside of Avenue 50, and drainage system. Additional modifications to the City of La Quinta ultimate condition include 11-foot-wide parkway and raised median only where they currently exist and where needed to restrict traffic movements. The improvements along Avenue 50 also include a smaller project to improve Hjorth Street at Avenue 50 to include a southbound right turn lane onto westbound Avenue 50. This segment shall be designed first. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
