Three heritage stone draw kilns are located at the Quarry Park site in Stonewall, Manitoba. The current project is to perform repairs to the Southwest kiln. These repairs will include dismantling large areas of the kiln walls, built from the limestone, rubble stone and fire brick. The original face stones will be labeled and stored for reinstallation. Mortar joint repairs will be performed for those face stones designated to remain in place. Other project components include stabilization of the below grade portions by installing a concrete facing wall, rebuilding interior brick arches near grade level, and the installation of structural steel cross-bracing. The work will be tendered to the pre-qualified masonry contracting firms. A CCDC 11 pre-qualification program is in effect for the work. The contractor will be required to provide heritage masonry restoration project references valued in excess of $500,000.00 and confirm that at least one Journeyman mason for every apprentice will be on-site and overseeing the masonry repairs at all times. The masonry company must also provide the qualifications of the proposed superintendent dedicated to the project. Masonry restoration contractors potentially bidding the work must also be COR Certified.
