We are unsure of why this occurred. The cracked timber is connected to the stabilizing cable. The timber needs to be repaired in such a way to ensure the safety of persons crossing and the bridge integrity. The adjacent steps on the walkway require replacing. A final certified engineers report must indicate that the repair made under this contract has made the bridge safe for a number of years. The report will also include the structural integrity and performance and safety of the entire bridge with respect to alignment, condition of steel masts, foundations, cabling, anchoring systems, timber components, handrails, guardrails and fasteners including any recommendations to ensure safety in the future.
