Renovation of a mixed-use development in Kitchener, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility; laboratory facility; and 58,000-square-foot, two-story above grade warehouse / distribution facility.
Construction of the University of Waterloo Innovation Arena University of Waterloo (UW) proposes to renovate 58,000 sq ft of an existing 90,000 sq ft, two-storey warehouse at 280 Joseph Street in downtown Kitchener. The new, purpose-built space will allow Velocity to streamline commercialization, fast-track entrepreneurs, and support the global economy. The location is otherwise know as the Kitchener Campus and is currently the site of the School of Pharmacy and Integrated Health Buildings. The renovations will include a complete new building enclosure, site works, landscaping and interior renovations to accommodate office space, highly flexible bio-chemistry laboratories, chemical laboratories and product development laboratories as the new home of Velocity on the upper floor, and City of Kitchener Small Business Centre on the lower floor. Funding sources: Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), Ontario's provincial government, City of Kitchener and philanthropic gifts. *Award amount was not released for publication.
