Cleaning and Dredging of sediment and materials in the stream. The work under this contract will include all equipment, labor, material, supplies, etc. necessary to furnish the work described in this contract. The work consists of cleaning and dredging sediment and materials within a stream as herein described, by use of vactor technology on Sandy Brook, between an existing outlet on Raymond Road (paper road) to an existing inlet on Bedford Street, approximately 637' feet long, in Burlington, Massachusetts. The second area of work to be done is behind the property of one (1) Fairfax Street, at the outlet of an existing ten (10") inch reinforced concrete pipe. The drainage channel needs to be reestablished at or lower than the outlet elevation. This drainage gully is approximately four feet (4') wide and approximately forty feet (40') long and empties into the main stream at station 2+25. Two tree logs approximately 4' long and 20" wide must be removed from this channel by come along or chainsaw if needed. The material dredged from the stream, whether by Vactor or hand, shall be disposed of legally as stated in the Order of Conditions and must be accompanied by Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP) Material Shipping Record (MSR). All testing and disposal requirements shall be in accordance with Mass DEP Interim Policy #COMM-94-007. The vactor truck shall operate from the existing roadway only. The stream shall be dewatered to an extent which allows for the most efficient and effective dredging that minimizes decanting of dredged material. At a minimum, the Contractor shall use two (2) stream bypass pumps sized appropriately for the flow conditions present during the Project. The stream shall be dammed just upstream from the dredging by use of sandbags or other similar materials. One bypass pump shall be installed on the upstream side of the dam and discharge downstream of the dredging area. The second pump shall be installed within the dredging area and discharge downstream of the dredging area. A bypass pumping detail is included in the Appendix. All work shall be completed within ninety (90) calendar days from the date of the Notice to Proceed.
