The Brookie Stewardship project is located approximately 1 mile west of Strongs, MI within T4N R5W sec. 31 and T46N R6W sec. 28, 29, 32, 33, 35, and 36. Stewardship service work items are included in this project and consist of 2 units of aspen site prep totaling 70.9 acres, 3 units with canopy gap cleaning for a total of 165 gaps (removal of sub-merchantable material), 1 unit with group selection which includes the creation of 71 - 100 foot diameter canopy gaps by felling sub-merchantable material, and 2 units of opening maintenance for a total of 27.4 acres. In addition to the specified road package additional service item roadwork and watershed rehabilitation is included in the work items which includes the removal of roadbed material at pre-identified streamside crossings for a total of 65 feet of rehab, the removal of 1 log crossing, and the creation of 1 berm earth closure. This project has an estimated timber volume of 7,191 CCF, made up of approximately 35% aspen pulpwood, 34% mixed hardwood pulpwood (1,491 CCF of which is sugar maple), 10% red pine sawtimber, and 2% mixed hardwood sawtimber which is approximately 86% red maple (129 CCF).Bids will be evaluated on a best value basis and bidders must submit a response to the technical proposal as well as a unit rate value bid for the timber and a per unit rate for completing the stewardship service work items. Offers will not be publicly opened or disclosed. The Forest Service reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
