The project will add a Teen Center to the existing Brookhurst Community Center for a dedicated programming space for youth in west Anaheim. The Teen Center will be approximately 735 square feet and will have a dedicated attached unisex restroom, new landscaping, and a re-routed pathway from the parking lot. It will complement the look of the existing Community Center's architecture. The City's Project S.A.Y. (Support Anaheim's Youth) Teen Center Program will operate the space daily for youth 13-17 years of age. At present time, the program has not been able to fully develop itself in this part of the City due to the lack of dedicated programming space within the footprint of the Brookhurst Community Center. Project S.A.Y staff plan, develop, and implement daily programming including homework assistance, recreation, arts, service projects, and leadership activities, among others. The teen center program is offered free of charge to Anaheim youth. This project is included in the City of Anaheim's FY 2022-2027 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of August 15, 2022, information regarding a design team or a general contractor is not available.
