The fire department is in need of expanding our Training Academy. Our current facility will only accommodate about 20 students at a time. Our goal is to exponentially increase the number of students served annually. The fire department is currently working with Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) to funnel their students to our campus for the 3-month fire training academy. We are also in the planning stages to bring our EMS Paramedic program back in-house. This will also require additional classroom space. The paramedic and basic fire academies will run simultaneously. The long-term plan for this facility is to be a regional training center for fire and EMS. We are estimating a 7,000 - 10,000 square foot building with male and female shower/bathroom facilities. We are anticipating needing to accommodate 50-60 students in both buildings. This project is included in the city’s fy 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program.
