The City of St. Helena was recently awarded Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds for the St. Helena Defensible Space and Fuels Management project. This project will create defensible space in six high risk areas covering 159 acres by removing vegetation within 100 feet from roadways and critical water facilities in the proposed areas. This is a phased project. Phase I consists of Planning Tasks and no groundbreaking activity can be conducted without approval from Cal OES and FEMA. The City of St. Helena is requesting proposals from qualified firms for professional services to conduct a planning study, including biological and cultural resources assessments, fire fuels assessment and treatment plans, acquisition of required agency permits, and preparation and filing of CEQA compliance documents. The selected firm will act as a lead consultant providing pre-construction assessments, surveys, and permits for the project. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
