Reference number : 1629888 Review Title : Upgrading walking paths Deadline for receipt of complaints: 2022-08-16 Submission sent electronically accepted: No The Municipality of the Township of Potton wishes to obtain tenders for the upgrading of the Missisquoi Nord trails located at Mont Owl's Head. More specifically, the municipalities of the North Missisquoi Valley, namely Eastman, Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, Bolton-Est and the Township of Potton, supported by volunteer citizens, have undertaken to enhance their territory. Believing that outdoor activities contribute in large part to the quality of life of citizens, they created Action Memphré-Ouest (AMO), a regional consultation and solidarity organization linked to sustainable development. The AMO, located in the west of the MRC Memphrémagog, is responsible for managing the Missisquoi Nord trails and the Circuit de l'Abbaye projects. In 2011, the Municipality of the Township of Potton, Action Memphré-Ouest and the Owl's Head resort established a three-way partnership to divert hiking trails at the ski resort. Originally a 4 km loop was developed. Since then, 3 other trail circuits have been added. To date, these trails are under the management of the Missisquoi North volunteer team. Their role is to manage light trail maintenance, replace damaged trail signs and report to the Municipality any major work involving heavy equipment or chainsaws. Over the years, problems began to appear on the Missisquoi North trails located at Owl's Head. Indeed, these trails have become more and more popular and new hikers use them every year. Due to this growing popularity, some segments of the trails are wearing down which has led to several issues including slippery roots, unstable bedrock, excessive tree growth causing problems with orientation , etc. In some places, hikers have created their own paths to avoid the impassable parts. All this phenomenon of wear also leads to safety problems for hikers. This is why the trail restoration project is essential. The work requested requires the use of specialized equipment, construction expertise and several hours of manual labor. Start date : 24 Sep 2022
